Why We Exist

Human life unfolds within conditions of continuous change.
People continually respond to changing relationships, organisations, communities and societies. They also seek to shape those conditions, bringing about change in pursuit of better lives, stronger institutions and healthier communities.

Yet despite the central place of change in human life, our understanding of it remains surprisingly limited.

Change is often explained in terms of personality, leadership, politics, strategy or circumstance. Sometimes these explanations are right. Often they overlook something more fundamental: the quality of our response to change depends on how well we understand what is happening.

When change is misunderstood, people become confused, organisations struggle, opportunities are missed and well intentioned actions often make matters worse.
Change Planet exists because we believe that understanding change is one of the most important human capabilities we can develop.

What We Believe

We believe that change mastery is not primarily a professional skill. It is a fundamental human capability.

Every one of us must continually make sense of changing circumstances, decide how to respond, and, at times, deliberately bring about change ourselves. Parents, teachers, leaders, communities, everyone.

Every day, people make decisions that shape the future without fully understanding the conditions they are acting within. We believe that better understanding leads to better judgement, and better judgement leads to wiser action.

For that reason, we begin with a simple discipline.
Observe before interpreting.
Describe before explaining.
Preserve reality before editing it.

We believe understanding grows from careful observation of reality, thoughtful reflection on experience, open dialogue and continual testing of ideas in practice.
We do not claim to possess a definitive theory of change. We believe understanding is always developing and should remain open to challenge, correction and refinement.

Our Work

Everything we do serves a single purpose: Advancing human understanding of change.

We pursue that purpose in different ways.
We preserve lived experience through My Change Experience, building a public record of how change is actually experienced by the people living through it.
We create spaces where leaders, practitioners and others carrying responsibility for change can think together about the realities they encounter.
We develop ideas, frameworks and publications that help people interpret change more clearly and respond more wisely.
We engage in public conversation through writing, speaking and dialogue, contributing to a broader understanding of change across organisations and society.

Each initiative is different. Each contributes to the same mission.
